How to Add an H1 Heading to a Page in the PhotoBiz Website Builder

Overview

An H1 heading is usually the main heading on a website page. It helps visitors quickly understand what the page is about and can also help search engines understand the main topic of the page.

Your PhotoBiz Website Builder allows you to add H1 markup in multiple ways. A Title Block automatically uses an H1 tag, while the Text Editor Block and Text + Image Block allow you to apply Heading 1 formatting to selected text.

This guide explains how to add an H1 heading to a page using each supported block type.

What Is an H1 Heading?

An H1 heading is the primary heading on a page. It should describe the main topic of that page in a clear and natural way.

For example:

  • Family Photography Pricing
  • Wedding Photography Portfolio
  • Newborn Photography Sessions
  • Contact Your Photographer
  • Senior Portrait Experience

H1 headings should be used for page structure, not just for visual styling. If you only want to make text larger, bold, or decorative, use the design and font settings available in your block instead.

Ways to Add an H1 Heading

You can add H1 markup to a website page using these block types:

  • Title Block
  • Text Editor Block
  • Text + Image Block

Each option works a little differently. The Title Block automatically applies H1 markup to the title text. The Text Editor Block and Text + Image Block allow you to highlight text and choose Heading 1 from the formatting toolbar.

STEP ONE

Log into your PhotoBiz account and click WEBSITE in the left-side menu.

STEP TWO

Click the page where you want to add your H1 heading.

This could be a page such as Home, About, Pricing, Contact, Portfolio, or any custom page you have created in your Website Builder.

STEP THREE

Use the blocks available in the right-side menu to choose how you want to add your H1 heading.

Click the block type you want to use. You can choose a Title Block, Text Editor Block, or Text + Image Block.

STEP FOUR

Add or format the main heading for your page.

If you use a Title Block, enter your heading text in the block. The Title Block automatically applies H1 markup to the text you add.

If you use a Text Editor Block or Text + Image Block, enter your heading text in the text area. Highlight the text you want to use as the H1 heading, then choose Heading 1 from the formatting toolbar.

Use a clear heading that describes the purpose of the page. For example, if you are editing a family photography pricing page, your H1 could be Family Photography Pricing.

FINAL STEP

Click Save to apply your changes to your website.

Your page now has H1 markup applied to the main heading. When you view the page, the heading should appear in the location where you added or formatted it.

Using a Title Block for H1 Markup

The Title Block automatically applies an H1 tag to the text you add inside the block.

This option is helpful when you want to add a standalone page title or main heading. You do not need to manually choose Heading 1 when using a Title Block because the H1 markup is applied automatically.

Full Guide: How To Use Title Blocks

Using a Text Editor Block for H1 Markup

The Text Editor Block allows you to apply Heading 1 formatting to selected text.

Open the Text Editor Block, highlight the text you want to use as your H1 heading, and choose Heading 1 from the formatting toolbar. This applies H1 markup to the selected text inside the block.

This option is helpful when your main heading is part of a larger text section.

Using a Text + Image Block for H1 Markup

The Text + Image Block also allows you to apply Heading 1 formatting to selected text in the text area of the block.

Open the Text + Image Block, highlight the text you want to format, and choose Heading 1 from the formatting toolbar. This applies H1 markup to the selected text while keeping your image and text together in the same block.

This option is helpful when you want your main heading to appear near an image.

H1 Best Practices

Use your H1 heading to clearly describe the main topic of the page.

Helpful guidelines include:

  • Use one main H1 heading per page in most cases.
  • Keep your H1 clear, specific, and easy to understand.
  • Use natural keywords when they fit the page topic.
  • Do not use H1 headings only to make text larger.
  • Use H2 headings for major sections below the H1.
  • Use H3 headings for smaller subsections under an H2.

For example, a portrait photographer’s pricing page might use this structure:

  • H1: Portrait Photography Pricing
  • H2: Session Options
  • H2: What Is Included
  • H2: How to Book Your Session
  • H3: Print Packages
  • H3: Digital Image Options

This structure helps visitors scan the page and helps search engines understand how your content is organized.

When Should You Use an H1?

You should use an H1 heading for the main topic of the page.

Common examples include:

  • Home page headline
  • About page title
  • Pricing page title
  • Contact page title
  • Portfolio page title
  • Service page title
  • Landing page headline

For blog posts, the Blog Builder also supports heading tags. Title Blocks in the Blog Builder automatically apply H1 tags, and Text Editor Blocks allow you to apply Heading 1, Heading 2, or Heading 3 from the formatting toolbar.

Additional Options or Helpful Notes

If you already have a Title Block on your page, that block is already using H1 markup.

If you add Heading 1 formatting inside a Text Editor Block or Text + Image Block on the same page, review the page structure to make sure you are not adding extra H1 headings by accident.

If you are adding headings for SEO, focus on making them helpful for your visitors first. Your H1 should read naturally and match the content on the page.

Troubleshooting or FAQs

Does the Title Block automatically create an H1?

Yes. The Title Block automatically applies H1 markup to the text inside the block.

Can I manually apply an H1 in a Text Editor Block?

Yes. The Text Editor Block supports Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 formatting. Highlight your text and choose Heading 1 from the formatting toolbar.

Can I manually apply an H1 in a Text + Image Block?

Yes. The Text + Image Block supports Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 formatting in the text area of the block. Highlight your text and choose Heading 1 from the formatting toolbar.

Can I have more than one H1 on a page?

In most cases, it is best to use one main H1 heading per page. This keeps your page structure clear for visitors and search engines.

Should I use H1 headings to make text bigger?

No. Header tags should be used to organize your page content. If you only want to change how text looks, use the design, font, or style settings for the block instead.
