How to Point Your Domain to PhotoBiz Using A Records
If you’ve already purchased and registered a domain name through a third-party provider, you can still use it with your PhotoBiz website! While we generally recommend updating your domain name servers to point directly to PhotoBiz, there are some cases where you may need to use A records to point your domain to our IP address instead.
This guide will walk you through the steps to connect your existing domain to PhotoBiz using A records.
⚠️ Important Things to Know Before You Start
- Using A records can sometimes interfere with features like Pay-Per-Click tracking or how search engines crawl your site, depending on your DNS provider’s settings or firewall.
- For best results, we recommend pointing your domain name servers to PhotoBiz when you’re ready to launch.
- You should complete your website layout and design before updating your domain, because during the update process, your access to the Website Builder will be temporarily paused for 24–48 hours while the domain points to PhotoBiz and your SSL is set up.
STEP ONE
Submit a Domain Setup Request
-
Log into your PhotoBiz account.
-
From your control panel, submit a domain setup request with the domain name you'd like to connect.
-
Our team will update your PhotoBiz account to use your custom domain and send you a confirmation email when it's ready.
STEP TWO
Update Your DNS Records
Once you receive confirmation from us, log in to your domain registrar or DNS host (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.) and add or update the following DNS records:
Type | Host | Value | TTL |
---|---|---|---|
A | @ | 18.235.135.157 | Lowest possible |
A | * | 18.235.135.157 | Lowest possible |
CNAME | www | @ | Lowest possible |
Important:
- “@” typically refers to your root domain (like
yourdomain.com
). - “*” is a wildcard record, used to catch any subdomains not specifically defined.
- TTL (Time To Live) should be set to the lowest possible setting (e.g., 300 seconds or 5 minutes, if available).
STEP THREE
Wait for Propagation
Once you’ve made the changes, your domain may take up to 24–48 hours to fully update and become live. During this time:
- Your domain will begin pointing to your PhotoBiz website.
- SSL encryption will automatically be applied.
- Access to the Website Builder will be restored once propagation is complete.
