How to Upgrade Your PhotoBiz Name Servers to Amazon Route 53

Overview

PhotoBiz has upgraded its Domain Name System, or DNS, to Amazon Route 53. Amazon Route 53 is a reliable DNS service that helps manage how your domain connects to your website, email, and other online services.

This guide explains how to generate your new Amazon Route 53 name servers inside your PhotoBiz account and update them with your domain registrar. After the update is complete, your domain will use Amazon Route 53 name servers, and you will be able to manage supported DNS records directly inside PhotoBiz.

If your domain is currently using PhotoBiz legacy Rackspace name servers, you can upgrade to Amazon Route 53 at no additional cost.

Clients upgrading from PhotoBiz Rackspace name servers to Amazon Route 53 will not experience downtime during this change.

Why Switch to Amazon Route 53?

Upgrading to Amazon Route 53 moves your domain to the current PhotoBiz DNS system. This gives your domain access to improved DNS reliability and allows you to manage supported DNS records directly inside your PhotoBiz account.

With Amazon Route 53 name servers, you can manage supported records such as:

  • A Records
  • CNAME Records
  • MX Records
  • TXT Records

This is helpful when you need to connect your website, set up email, verify your domain with a third-party service, or update other domain-related settings.

If your domain remains on PhotoBiz legacy Rackspace name servers, DNS changes must be submitted to the PhotoBiz Support Team through a support ticket. Upgrading to Amazon Route 53 allows you to make many DNS updates yourself from your PhotoBiz control panel.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure your domain is connected to your PhotoBiz account.

You will also need access to the account where your domain is registered. This is your domain registrar account. Your registrar may be GoDaddy, Namecheap, Network Solutions, IONOS, Squarespace Domains, Wix, Bluehost, HostGator, or another domain provider.

You must be able to update your domain’s name servers inside your registrar account.

Not Sure Where Your Domain Is Registered?

If you do not know where your domain is registered, you can perform a WHOIS lookup.

Go to:

https://www.misk.com/tools/#whois

Enter your domain name, such as yourdomain.com, and click WHOIS.

In the results, look for the Registrar or Reseller. The registrar is the company where your domain is registered. The reseller may show another company name connected to the domain registration.

You will need to log into that company’s account to update your name servers.

STEP ONE

Log in to your PhotoBiz account and click DOMAINS in the left-side menu of your control panel.

This opens your Domains section, where you can view and manage domain names connected to your PhotoBiz account.

STEP TWO

If your domain is not already using Amazon Route 53 name servers, you will see a notification in your Domains section. Check the box labeled Yes, move my DNS records to Route 53.

After you select this option, PhotoBiz will generate four new Amazon Route 53 name servers for your domain. These name servers are unique to your domain and should be entered exactly as shown.

Keep this screen open, or copy the four name servers so you can add them to your domain registrar account.

FINAL STEP

Log in to your domain registrar account. This is the account where your domain name is registered.

Locate the area where your registrar allows you to manage name servers. Depending on your registrar, this section may be called Name Servers, DNS Settings, Domain Settings, or something similar.

Replace your current name servers with the four new Amazon Route 53 name servers shown in your PhotoBiz control panel. Save your changes when you are finished.

DNS updates can take up to 24 hours to fully propagate, although many updates complete sooner.

Once propagation is complete, your domain will use Amazon Route 53 name servers. You will then be able to manage supported DNS records directly inside your PhotoBiz account.

Additional Options and Helpful Notes

If your domain was previously using PhotoBiz legacy Rackspace name servers, your existing DNS records are moved to Amazon Route 53 during the upgrade process. This means your website and connected services can continue working without downtime while you complete the name server update.

If your domain is using third-party name servers, such as Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, or another provider, your DNS records are currently managed outside of PhotoBiz. You can either continue managing DNS through that provider or update your name servers to the Amazon Route 53 name servers generated in your PhotoBiz account.

If you use custom email, such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho, or another email provider, make sure your email-related DNS records are included in your DNS settings. These may include MX, TXT, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records. These records help keep your email working correctly.

Helpful Registrar Guides

Most domain registrars provide their own help articles for updating name servers. Search your registrar’s support site for “change name servers” or “update name servers.”

Troubleshooting and FAQs

I do not see the option to move my DNS records to Route 53. What should I do?

If you do not see the Route 53 upgrade option, your domain may already be using Amazon Route 53 name servers, or your domain may be configured in a way that requires help from PhotoBiz Support.

Will my website go down when upgrading from PhotoBiz Rackspace name servers to Amazon Route 53?

No. Clients upgrading from PhotoBiz legacy Rackspace name servers to Amazon Route 53 will not experience downtime during this change.

PhotoBiz moves your existing DNS records to Amazon Route 53 during the upgrade process. After you update your name servers at your registrar, your domain will continue pointing to the correct DNS records.

What if my domain is using third-party name servers?

If your domain is using third-party name servers, your DNS is managed outside of PhotoBiz. You can keep your current name servers and continue managing DNS with your provider, or you can update your name servers to Amazon Route 53 using the name servers generated in your PhotoBiz account.

Before switching from third-party name servers to Amazon Route 53, make sure any required DNS records are added in PhotoBiz. This is especially important if you use custom email, verification records, or other third-party services.

Can PhotoBiz update my name servers for me?

PhotoBiz can help guide you through the process, but name servers usually must be updated inside the account where your domain is registered. If PhotoBiz does not manage your domain registration, you will need access to your registrar account.

What happens if I enter the wrong name servers?

If the name servers are entered incorrectly, your website, email, or other domain services may stop working. Always copy and paste the four name servers exactly as they appear in your PhotoBiz account.
