Adding images throughout your site is a great way to show off your expertise to visitors. In this tutorial, you will learn about the variety of ways you can customize how your images are displayed.
Overview
The Images Block allows you to display photos throughout your PhotoBiz website using professional grids, galleries, slideshows, carousels, cards, and editorial layouts. You can upload new images, use images already stored in your account, or select stock images.
This guide explains how to add an Images Block, organize your images, select a layout, and customize its appearance. You will also learn how to add image titles, descriptions, alt text, links, colors, backgrounds, fonts, and animations.
The settings available in the Images Block may vary depending on the layout you select.
Log in to your PhotoBiz account and click WEBSITE in the left-side menu. The Website Builder opens and displays the pages currently included on your website.
Click the name of the page where you want to add the Images Block. You can also create a new page before adding the block.
To add an Images Block to the bottom of the page, click the Images icon on the right side of the Website Builder.
To place the block in a specific location, hover over the Images icon, click and hold it, and drag it onto the page. Release the block when the teal placement line appears in the desired location.
Choose whether you want to start with a blank block or a predesigned Images Block.
A blank block uses your website’s global style settings and allows you to configure the layout and design from the beginning. A predesigned block includes a professionally styled layout that you can customize with your own images and settings.
Click Select under the design you want to use.
After you add the block, the Images section opens. Use this section to upload, select, and organize the images displayed in the block.
Click UPLOAD to add new images from your device. Click CLIPBOARD to use images previously uploaded to your PhotoBiz account. Click STOCK IMAGES to browse available stock photography.
Predesigned blocks may include placeholder images. You can keep these images or remove them by dragging them to the Delete button.
Drag your images within the image panel to change their display order. Click an individual image to add its title, description, alt text, or link.
Click Layout in the right-side settings menu. Review the available Images Block layouts and select the option that best matches the type of images you are displaying.
Grid layouts may allow you to select the number of rows and columns. Other layouts may include options for image cropping, text placement, slideshow behavior, navigation, or carousel display.
Click Save under the layout you want to apply.
Review the Images Block on your page. Confirm that your images appear in the correct order, titles and descriptions display as expected, and links open the correct destination.
Review the page on both desktop and mobile devices to confirm that the selected layout and spacing work well at different screen sizes.
Some controls save automatically. When a section includes a Save Changes button, click Save Changes before leaving that section.
The Save button applies your updates directly to your live website. There is no separate publish button.
The settings icons on the right side of the Images Block appear in this order:
The sections below explain the options available within each area.
The Images section allows you to add, remove, arrange, and edit the photos displayed in the block.
You can add images from the following sources:
Drag images within the image panel to change their display order. Drag an image to the Delete button to remove it from the block.
Removing an image from an Images Block does not affect a copy stored in your Image Clipboard.
Image Titles, Descriptions, Alt Text, and Links
Click an individual image to edit its information. Depending on the selected layout, you may be able to add:
Titles and descriptions may appear below an image, over an image, or when a visitor hovers over it. Some layouts do not support every text option.
Write alt text that briefly explains the important content or purpose of the image. Avoid adding unrelated keywords or beginning every description with phrases such as “image of.”
The Last Item section controls whether the final item displayed in the grid includes an additional link. You can use this setting to load more images within the current page or direct visitors to another destination.
Display Last Item Link
Choose one of the following options:
No Last Item Link
When Display Last Item Link is set to None, the block does not reserve a position for a link.
The block displays images based on the number of images available and the selected layout. In grid layouts, the selected number of rows and columns determines how many images appear.
Load More Link
When you select Yes, as a “load more link,” the following settings appear:
Available Link Style options include:
The Last Grid Item option places the link in the final position of the image grid. This option is available on supported grid layouts except PINBOARD.
When a visitor selects the load more link, another set of images loads within the same page.
Standard Link
When you select Yes, as a “standard link,” the following settings appear:
Standard link destinations can include:
When linking to another website page, use Choose a page to select the page. You can then use Choose a block to direct visitors to a specific block or select Top of the Page.
Available Link Style options include:
The Last Grid Item option is available on supported grid layouts except PINBOARD.
Click Save Changes after configuring the Last Item settings.
The Layout section controls how images are arranged within the block. Available controls and text placement vary depending on the layout you select.
Grid and Editorial Layouts
Collage and Modern Layouts
Stacked and Gallery Layouts
Carousel Layouts
Card Layouts
Accordion Gallery Layouts
Click Save under a layout to apply it to the Images Block.
The Styling section allows you to override your website’s global styling settings for the Images Block. Available controls depend on the selected layout and may include:
Mobile View
The Mobile View setting is located in the Styling section. It controls whether supported layouts arrange images in one or two columns on mobile devices.
The Mobile View setting changes how the images are arranged. It does not change the total number of images included through the layout’s row and column settings.
An Images Block displays up to 10 items at a time on mobile devices.
When Display Last Item Link is set to None, no position is reserved for a link. Images display according to the selected layout and, for grid layouts, the selected rows and columns, up to the 10-item mobile limit.
If the selected rows and columns include fewer than 10 images, that selected number appears on mobile.
When more than 10 images are available and Link Style is set to Last Grid Item, nine images appear followed by the Last Item link in the tenth position.
When Yes, as a “load more link” is selected, visitors can select the link to load another set of images within the same page.
Click Save Changes after adjusting the Styling settings.
The Colors section allows you to override your website’s global color settings for the Images Block. Available options depend on the selected layout and may include:
Click Save Changes to apply your color selections.
The Background section allows you to place an image behind the content of the Images Block.
You can select:
Background display settings include:
Click Save Changes to apply the background.
The Fonts section allows you to override your website’s global font settings for supported Images Block text.
Depending on your selected layout, you may be able to customize:
Available controls may include the font family, font size, letter spacing, and line height. Letter spacing controls the space between characters. Line height controls the vertical space between lines of text.
Click Save Changes after adjusting the font settings.
The Animation section allows you to add a visual effect when a visitor hovers over an image.
Available options include:
Choose an animation that supports your website design without making the images difficult to view or navigate.
Click Save Changes to apply the selected animation.
The Images Block supports DuoBuild. DuoBuild is a built-in Website Builder feature that allows two supported blocks to appear next to each other in a two-column layout without custom code.
To activate DuoBuild, drag the Images Block horizontally over another supported block. When the placement area highlights in green, release your mouse. The blocks will snap into a side-by-side layout.
The following blocks support DuoBuild:
If the blocks do not connect, confirm that both block types support DuoBuild and that you are dragging the block horizontally rather than placing it above or below the other block.
Why are some of my images being cropped?
Many Images Block layouts use fixed square, portrait, or landscape proportions. Select a Pinboard, Slideshow, Stacked, or a No Crop layout when you want to preserve the original proportions of each image.
Why is my image title or description not showing?
Some layouts display text only when a visitor hovers over an image. Other layouts may not support descriptions. Review the layout description and confirm that you added the text to the correct image.
Why are only some of my images visible?
Review the selected layout and the number of rows and columns configured for the block. On mobile devices, up to 10 items display at a time.
You can use the Last Item settings with a load more link to allow visitors to display additional images.
Why does the mobile version show nine images and a link?
When the block contains more than 10 images and Link Style is set to Last Grid Item, the mobile version displays nine images followed by the Last Item link in the tenth position.
Why does the number of images change when I adjust the rows or columns?
In grid layouts, the selected number of rows and columns determines how many images are included in the visible grid.
For example, a layout with two rows and three columns displays up to six images before any Last Item settings are applied.
Why did the design change after I selected another layout?
Each layout has its own cropping, text placement, spacing, and styling behavior. Review the Styling, Colors, Background, Fonts, and Animation sections after changing layouts.
Why will my blocks not connect with DuoBuild?
DuoBuild works only with supported block types. Confirm that both blocks support DuoBuild, then drag one block horizontally over the other until the placement area highlights in green.
