If you’ve noticed that your website images appear zoomed in or distorted in Google Chrome or Safari, you’re not alone. This issue is often caused by specific browser settings. Fortunately, there are simple steps you can take to fix it and ensure your images display properly across all devices.
In this article, we’ll guide you through adjusting your browser settings in both Google Chrome and Safari to resolve zoomed images. Follow the steps below based on the browser you’re using, and your website will look as it should in no time.
Instructions specific to Safari are found at the bottom of this article.
Quick Fix: Reset Browser Zoom
Before diving into the steps, try resetting your browser zoom:
- Windows/PC Users: Press CTRL + 0
- Apple/Mac Users: Press Command + 0
This reset often solves zoom issues. If the problem persists, continue with the steps below.
Fix Zoomed Images on Google Chrome
STEP ONE
Open Google Chrome and then access your browser settings
At the top right of your browser, you’ll be able to access your settings in Google Chrome by clicking the menu icon and then selecting Settings. You can also access these by typing "chrome://settings" into your address bar.
Once you've accessed your settings, you'll see a screen similar to the one below.
STEP TWO
Check for Chrome updates and make sure you’re on the latest version
In the bottom left of your Settings, click on “About Chrome” in order to check if your Chrome is up to date. Making sure that your device has the most up-to-date version of Google Chrome ensures you have no compatibility and/or security issues with your browser. You'll be able to see here what version you're using and be given the option to update if there's a new version available. Once you're up-to-date, Google Chrome will give you a confirmation message.

If you need to update your version of Chrome, be sure to restart Chrome before continuing to step 3.
STEP THREE
Click on Privacy and Security in the left side menu of Google Chrome and then click on the SITE SETTINGS option.
This section of your Google Chrome settings will be where you'll be able to adjust the zoom settings on the images that is causing them to display improperly.
Pro Tip! You can skip directly to Step 5 by typing "chrome://settings/content/zoomLevels" into your Chrome address bar
STEP FOUR
Scroll down and click on "Additional Content Settings"
STEP FIVE
Click on Zoom Levels
STEP SIX
Remove any websites listed in the Zoom Levels section by clicking on the X, this is to ensure Google Chrome is properly displaying images on the websites you visit.
Once you've performed the above steps, restart Google Chrome and your website will load normally.

Fix Zoomed Images on Safari
STEP 1: Access Safari Preferences
In the Safari app on your Mac, select Safari and navigate to Preferences.
STEP 2: Access Page Zoom Levels
Once your Preferences menu appears, click Websites icon located in the top bar.
Click Page Zoom in the options that appear below on the left menu to display any page zoom settings Safari may have stored on your browser.
STEP 3: Remove Zoomed Website From List
Select all websites listed under Configured Websites (to select several websites at once, press and hold the Shift or Command key as you click), then click Remove to clear the list.
Once you've performed the above steps, restart Safari and your website will load normally.
