How to Rename Blocks and Create Anchor Links in PhotoBiz

Overview

The PhotoBiz Website Builder lets you rename blocks so they are easier to identify while you edit your website. Custom block names are especially useful when a page contains several blocks of the same type.

You can also create anchor links, sometimes called jump links, that take visitors directly to a specific block. The destination can be a block on the same page or any other page on your website. This guide explains how to rename blocks and use the PhotoBiz link selector to create links directly to specific sections of your website.

How to Rename a Block

A BLOCK NAME is an internal label used to identify a block in the Website Builder. Renaming a block does not change the title, text, images, or other content visitors see on your website.

STEP ONE

Log into your PhotoBiz account and click WEBSITE in the left-side menu. Open the page that contains the block you want to rename.

STEP TWO

Locate the block you want to rename. Click the pencil icon for the block, then click RENAME.

STEP THREE

Enter a descriptive name in the BLOCK NAME field. Choose a name that will help you recognize that section later, such as Pricing, About Me, Testimonials, Portfolio, FAQ, or Contact Form.

Click SAVE CHANGES to apply the block name.

FINAL STEP

The custom block name will now appear with the block in your Website Builder.

You can also click the block label in the upper-right corner of the block as an alternate way to access its name. Using the pencil icon and RENAME is the recommended method when you specifically want to rename a block.

How to Create an Anchor Link to a Block

You can create an anchor link to a block on the page you are currently editing or to a block on a different page of your website.

When you create the link, you first select the destination page. PhotoBiz then displays the blocks available on that page so you can choose the exact section visitors should be taken to.

You do not have to rename a block before linking to it. However, descriptive block names make it much easier to identify the correct destination when a page contains multiple blocks of the same type.

STEP ONE

Open the Website Builder and locate the element you want visitors to click. This may be a button, linked image, text link, List Block item, or another element that uses the PhotoBiz link selector.

Open the link settings for that element.

STEP TWO

Under LINK TO, select PAGE.

This tells PhotoBiz that you want the link to direct visitors to a page on your website.

STEP THREE

Under CHOOSE A PAGE, select the page that contains the destination block.

You can select the page you are currently editing or any other page on your website. After you select the page, PhotoBiz will display the blocks from that page under CHOOSE A BLOCK.

FINAL STEP

Open CHOOSE A BLOCK and select the block you want visitors to jump to.

If you renamed the block, its custom BLOCK NAME appears in parentheses next to the block type. For example, a Text Editor Block named Session Pricing may appear as Editor (Session Pricing).

Save your changes. When visitors click the link, PhotoBiz will take them directly to the selected block, whether that block is on the same page or another page of your website.

How Block Names Appear in CHOOSE A BLOCK

The CHOOSE A BLOCK menu displays the blocks from the page selected under CHOOSE A PAGE.

Blocks that have not been renamed are identified by their block type, such as:

  • Title
  • Divider
  • Editor
  • Images
  • List
  • Blog

When a block has been renamed, the custom BLOCK NAME appears in parentheses next to the block type. For example:

  • Editor (About Me)
  • Editor (Session Pricing)
  • Images (Portfolio)
  • Form (Contact Form)

This is especially helpful when a page contains several blocks of the same type.

Same-Page and Cross-Page Anchor Links

Anchor links are not limited to sections on the page where the link appears.

You can use the same link selector to:

  • Link to a block farther down the current page
  • Link back to a block higher on the current page
  • Link directly to a specific section of another page
  • Send visitors from one page directly to pricing, a portfolio, FAQs, or a contact form on another page

The page you select under CHOOSE A PAGE determines which blocks are available under CHOOSE A BLOCK.

Common Uses for Anchor Links

Anchor links can make your website easier to navigate and help visitors reach important information faster. Common uses include:

  • Pricing
  • About Me sections
  • Portfolio galleries
  • Testimonials
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Session information
  • Contact or inquiry forms
  • Specific sections of landing pages

Anchor links are especially useful for long pages, one-page website designs, and links that need to take visitors directly to a specific section of another page.

Create a Back to Top Link

The CHOOSE A BLOCK menu also includes TOP OF THE PAGE.

Select TOP OF THE PAGE when you want a button, text link, image, or other linked element to return visitors to the beginning of the selected page. This can be useful near the bottom of longer pages.

Helpful Tips

  • Give blocks short, descriptive names that clearly identify the section.
  • Rename similar blocks before creating several anchor links so they are easier to distinguish.
  • A custom BLOCK NAME is used for organization and link selection. It does not change visible website content.
  • Select the destination page first, then choose the specific block on that page.
  • Review your anchor links if you later delete a block that was being used as a destination.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Do I have to rename a block before creating an anchor link?

No. You can select a block under CHOOSE A BLOCK without renaming it.

Renaming is recommended because the custom BLOCK NAME appears in parentheses, making the correct destination easier to identify.

Does renaming a block change what visitors see on my website?

No. The BLOCK NAME is an internal Website Builder label. Renaming it does not change the visible heading, text, images, or other content on your website.

Can I link to a block on the same page?

Yes. Under CHOOSE A PAGE, select the page you are currently editing. Then select the destination block under CHOOSE A BLOCK.

Can I link directly to a block on another page?

Yes. Under LINK TO, select PAGE. Then select the destination page under CHOOSE A PAGE and the specific section under CHOOSE A BLOCK.

When visitors click the link, PhotoBiz will open that page and take them directly to the selected block.

What is the difference between CHOOSE A PAGE and CHOOSE A BLOCK?

CHOOSE A PAGE determines which page the link points to. CHOOSE A BLOCK determines the specific section of that page visitors will be taken to.

Selecting the page first also determines which blocks PhotoBiz displays in the CHOOSE A BLOCK menu.

Why do I see several blocks with the same name in CHOOSE A BLOCK?

Blocks that have not been renamed are identified by their block type. If a page contains several Text Editor Blocks, for example, you may see multiple Editor options.

Rename each block with a descriptive BLOCK NAME to make them easier to tell apart.

Why don't I see the block I want under CHOOSE A BLOCK?

Confirm that you selected the correct destination page under CHOOSE A PAGE. The CHOOSE A BLOCK menu only displays blocks from the page you selected.

Can I create a link that returns visitors to the top of a page?

Yes. Select TOP OF THE PAGE under CHOOSE A BLOCK to create a link that takes visitors back to the beginning of the selected page.
