How to Choose a Custom Image for Your Website Link on Facebook
When you share a link to your website on Facebook, it automatically shows the first image on that page as the preview thumbnail. This is managed by something called the Open Graph protocol, which is also used by other social networks like X (formerly Twitter).
If you’d like to choose a different image for your preview, here’s what to do:
-
Update the First Image on Your Page
Go into your website builder and change the first image on the page you want to share. Facebook will use this as the preview image the next time you share the link. -
Check That Facebook Has the Latest Version of Your Page
After making your changes, you can make sure Facebook is showing the updated image by running your page URL through the Facebook Debugger. This tool clears out any old images from Facebook’s cache.
