Overview
The Custom Checkout Option in PhotoBiz ECommerce lets you collect additional information from customers during checkout. You can use this field to ask for personalization details, student information, order notes, pickup acknowledgements, or agreement confirmations.
This guide walks you through how to add a custom checkout option to your ECommerce checkout page. By the end, your customers will see the custom field during checkout, and their response will appear with the completed order in your ECommerce Dashboard.
PhotoBiz ECommerce supports one custom checkout option at a time. The field can be set up as either a Paragraph field or a Checkbox field.
You can also choose whether the field is visible to customers and whether customers are required to complete it before placing an order.
Common uses include:
Log in to your PhotoBiz account and click ECOMMERCE in the left-side menu. This opens your ECommerce Dashboard, where you can manage your products, orders, settings, and checkout options.
At the top of your ECommerce Dashboard, click SETTINGS. In the menu that opens, click CHECKOUT.
This takes you to the checkout settings area, where you can update options that appear during the customer checkout process.
Locate the CUSTOM CHECKOUT OPTION section.
Choose the type of field you want to add to checkout. You can select either Paragraph or Checkbox.
Use Paragraph when you want customers to type a custom response. This works well for student names, teacher names, team names, personalization details, or special instructions.
Use Checkbox when you want customers to confirm or agree to something. This works well for pickup acknowledgements, terms of use, print release confirmations, or final sale policies.
Enter a Label for the custom checkout option. The label is the title customers will see during checkout. For example, you might use Special Instructions, Personalization Details, Student Name and Classroom, or Pickup Acknowledgement.
Enter a Description to explain what the customer should provide or confirm. For example, you might enter “Please list the student’s name and teacher so we can match this order correctly” or “Please check this box to confirm you understand that all digital image sales are final.”
Set Visible to YES if you want customers to see the custom checkout option during checkout. If Visible is set to NO, the field will not appear to customers.
Set Required to YES if customers must complete the field before placing their order. For a Paragraph field, customers must enter text. For a Checkbox field, customers must check the box before they can complete checkout.
Click SAVE CHANGES to apply your updates.
Once saved, the custom checkout option will appear during checkout if it is set to visible. When a customer completes an order, their response will appear with the order details in your ECommerce Dashboard.
Paragraph
The Paragraph option allows customers to type information into a text field during checkout. This is the best option when the response may be different for each customer or order.
Use a Paragraph field for details such as:
Example label:
Student Name and Classroom
Example description:
Please enter your student’s full name and teacher so we can deliver this order to the correct classroom.
Checkbox
The Checkbox option allows customers to check a box during checkout. This is the best option when you need customers to confirm, acknowledge, or agree to something before placing an order.
Use a Checkbox field for confirmations such as:
Example label:
Digital Image Policy
Example description:
Please check this box to confirm you understand that all digital image sales are final.
A common use for the custom checkout option is collecting student and classroom details for school photography orders.
For this setup, you can choose Paragraph as the field type. Use a label such as Student Name and Classroom. In the description, ask the customer to enter the student’s name, teacher, and classroom information.
This helps you match completed orders to the correct student or parent after checkout.
After a customer places an order, their custom checkout response appears with the completed order details in your ECommerce Dashboard.
This allows you to review the information submitted during checkout while processing the order. For example, if a customer entered a student name, classroom, or personalization note, you can view that information directly with the order.
Why is my custom checkout option not showing during checkout?
Make sure the Visible option is set to YES. If Visible is set to NO, customers will not see the field during checkout.
After changing the setting, click SAVE CHANGES.
Can I add more than one custom checkout field?
No. PhotoBiz ECommerce supports one custom checkout option at a time.
If you need to collect multiple pieces of information, use the Paragraph field and include clear instructions in the description. For example, you can ask customers to enter a student name, teacher name, and classroom in the same field.
Can I make the custom checkout option required?
Yes. Set Required to YES.
When this setting is enabled, customers must complete the custom checkout option before placing their order.
What happens if I set Required to NO?
Customers will see the field during checkout if Visible is set to YES, but they can place their order without completing it.
Should I use Paragraph or Checkbox?
Use Paragraph when customers need to type information.
Use Checkbox when customers only need to confirm or agree to something.
