How to Use Pop-Ups for Free Downloads & Lead Generation

How to Offer a Free Download in Exchange for Email Sign-Ups on Your PhotoBiz Website

PhotoBiz includes powerful marketing tools to help you grow your email list and generate leads. This guide will walk you through how to set up a form that captures email addresses and delivers a free digital download to your visitors.

You’ll complete this in three main steps:

Upload your free download file
Create your email capture form
Add the form to a pop-up on your website

STEP ONE

Upload Your Free Download

Log into your PhotoBiz account and click on FILES from the left-hand menu.
This is where you’ll upload the file (PDF, image, etc.) you want to offer as a free download.

STEP TWO

Copy the Download Link

Once your file is uploaded, copy the direct link to it.
You’ll use this link later to deliver the download after the form is submitted.

STEP THREE

Create an Email Capture Form

Hover over FORMS and create a new form. You can:

Use the Newsletter Sign-Up or Blog Sign-Up templates
Or, create a blank form and just add an Email field

This form will collect email addresses from visitors in exchange for the free download.

STEP FOUR

Access Form Settings

Inside the form editor, click on the gear icon in the top-right corner, then select SETTINGS from the dropdown.

STEP FIVE

Add the Free Download to Your Thank You Message

You have two options for how your visitors receive the download:

Option 1: Show the download link immediately after form submission

Set Email Thank You Message to No
In the Thank You Message box, write your message (e.g., “Thanks for signing up! Click below to download your free guide.”)
Highlight the text and insert the file link you copied earlier

Option 2: Send the download link by email

Set Email Thank You Message to Yes
In the email message body, include your download link

Click SAVE CHANGES at the bottom when you're done.

STEP SIX

Create a Pop-Up for Your Website

Click on MARKETING in the left-hand menu, then select Pop-Up Builder at the top.

STEP SEVEN

Choose a Subscribe Pop-Up Design

Select one of the pre-made subscribe pop-up templates. These are perfect for offering lead magnets like free downloads.

STEP EIGHT

Customize Your Pop-Up

Update the text, colors, and layout to match your brand.
Then, connect your lead capture form to the pop-up.

FINAL STEP

Publish Your Pop-Up

Click PUBLISH to make your pop-up live on your website.
Now visitors can sign up and receive your free download automatically!
