Overview
If you use Gmail to send email from your PhotoBiz Mailbox address, Gmail may return a 535 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed message when it can no longer authenticate with your Mailbox. You may also see a message saying your Send mail as settings are misconfigured or out of date.
This error normally affects outgoing email from Gmail and does not necessarily prevent messages from being forwarded to your Gmail inbox. This guide shows you how to confirm your PhotoBiz Mailbox login, update the outgoing Mailbox settings saved in Gmail, and test your connection.
If you have not connected your PhotoBiz Mailbox to Gmail yet, see Using Your PhotoBiz Mailbox with Gmail for the complete setup instructions.
Before troubleshooting this error, make sure you have:
Your PhotoBiz Mailbox password may be different from the password you use to log into your PhotoBiz account or Gmail.
Go to mailbox.photobiz.com and try to log into webmail using your full PhotoBiz Mailbox email address and Mailbox password.
If you can log into webmail successfully, your PhotoBiz Mailbox email address and password are working. Continue to STEP THREE to update the credentials Gmail uses for outgoing email.
If you cannot log into webmail, continue to STEP TWO to reset your PhotoBiz Mailbox password.
Log into your PhotoBiz account and click MAILBOX in the left-side menu. Click the Mailbox email address you are troubleshooting, enter a new password, confirm the password, and click SAVE CHANGES.
Your new PhotoBiz Mailbox password takes effect immediately. Return to mailbox.photobiz.com and confirm that you can log into webmail using the new password before continuing.
Changing your PhotoBiz Mailbox password does not automatically update Gmail. You will enter the new password in Gmail in the next steps.
Log into Gmail from a computer. Click the SETTINGS icon in the upper-right corner, then click SEE ALL SETTINGS.
Click ACCOUNTS AND IMPORT and find your PhotoBiz Mailbox email address in the Send mail as section. Click EDIT INFO beside your PhotoBiz Mailbox address.
Confirm that your name and PhotoBiz Mailbox email address are correct, then click NEXT STEP to open the outgoing SMTP settings.
Enter secure.emailsrvr.com as the SMTP Server and select port 465. Your Username must be your complete PhotoBiz Mailbox email address. Enter the same PhotoBiz Mailbox password you successfully used to log into webmail, select Secured connection using SSL, then click SAVE CHANGES.
Do not enter your Gmail password or your main PhotoBiz account password. Gmail must authenticate with the PhotoBiz Mailbox server using your PhotoBiz Mailbox email address and Mailbox password.
Create a new message in Gmail and select your PhotoBiz Mailbox address in the From field. Send a test email to another email address you can access.
If the message sends successfully, your Gmail Send mail as connection is working again.
If Gmail continues to return the 535 authentication error even though you can log into PhotoBiz webmail with the same credentials, review the additional troubleshooting options below.
Gmail uses your PhotoBiz Mailbox SMTP server to send messages from your PhotoBiz email address. The 535 5.7.8 authentication failed error means Gmail could not authenticate with that outgoing server using the credentials it has saved.
Common causes include:
Receiving messages in Gmail can continue to work even when sending fails because incoming forwarding and outgoing SMTP authentication are separate processes.
When Gmail asks for your outgoing Mailbox settings, use:
secure.emailsrvr.com465Your username should include the complete email address, including everything before and after the @ symbol.
If you can successfully log into PhotoBiz webmail but Gmail still rejects the same email address and password, first return to SETTINGS > SEE ALL SETTINGS > ACCOUNTS AND IMPORT and verify the SMTP settings again.
If the settings are correct and the error continues, you can remove the PhotoBiz Mailbox address from Gmail's Send mail as section and add it again. Google recommends removing and re-adding a valid Send mail as address when it needs to be reverified.
Removing the address from Send mail as does not delete your PhotoBiz Mailbox or the messages stored in it. You will need to complete Gmail's verification process again when you add the address back.
For the complete setup process, see Using Your PhotoBiz Mailbox with Gmail.
A password change is one of the most common reasons an existing Gmail connection stops sending.
When you change your PhotoBiz Mailbox password, connected email applications do not automatically receive the new password. Gmail may continue trying to authenticate with the old password until you update the Send mail as settings.
You should also update the Mailbox password on any other computers, phones, tablets, or email applications connected to the same PhotoBiz Mailbox.
No. When Gmail is configured to send through the PhotoBiz Mailbox SMTP server at secure.emailsrvr.com, Gmail needs your PhotoBiz Mailbox password.
A Google App Password is used in situations where another application needs to authenticate with Google's own mail servers. It is not the password Gmail uses to authenticate with your PhotoBiz Mailbox server.
This is expected when only the outgoing connection has a problem.
Your PhotoBiz Mailbox can forward incoming messages to Gmail independently of Gmail's Send mail as feature. This means forwarding may continue to deliver new messages to your Gmail inbox even when Gmail cannot authenticate with the PhotoBiz outgoing mail server.
Fixing the SMTP credentials in Send mail as restores the outgoing connection.
Google has announced that Gmail will stop supporting Send mail as for third-party email addresses beginning in January 2027.
Official Gmail Announcement can be found here
Until that change takes effect, you can continue troubleshooting an existing PhotoBiz Mailbox Send mail as connection using the steps in this guide. Forwarding incoming PhotoBiz Mailbox messages to Gmail is a separate feature.
You can also send and receive PhotoBiz Mailbox email directly through webmail or connect your Mailbox to another supported email application using IMAP and SMTP.
