How to Troubleshoot Image Quality Issues on Your Website

If your uploaded images don’t look the same as your originals, don’t worry—there are a few simple adjustments you can make to improve how they appear online. This guide covers the most common image quality issues our Passionate Support team helps with and how to resolve them.

IMPORTANT:

Images prepared for print and images prepared for the web are not the same.

  • Print images are typically saved at 300 dpi for maximum detail.

  • Web images should be saved at 72 dpi to keep file sizes small and your website running fast.

Because of this, images often need to be adjusted specifically for web use to ensure they display clearly and with accurate color online.

SAVING FILES FOR WEB DISPLAY

Most image quality issues can be resolved by properly saving your images for online use. If you’re using Photoshop, we recommend using the “Export As” or “Save for Web” tool. This helps optimize your images for screen viewing without losing quality.

FIXING COLOR ISSUES (BLUE/RED CAST OR DISCOLORATION)

If your uploaded images appear dull, or have a strange color cast (like too much blue or red), it’s most likely a color profile issue.

Be sure your images are saved using the sRGB color profile before uploading them to PhotoBiz. This is the standard color space for web browsers and ensures consistent color across all devices.

ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR WASHED-OUT OR DULL IMAGES

Here are some extra ways to make sure your JPG or PNG files look great once they’re uploaded:

Use sRGB Color Profile

Make sure your images are saved in the sRGB color space before uploading.
Avoid Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB—those are made for print and can cause your colors to appear washed out on the web.

Resize Before Uploading

Letting the system resize large files can lead to unnecessary compression. Instead, prepare your images ahead of time:

  • Set the resolution to 72 dpi

  • Resize your image to be no wider than 3000px

  • For best results on PhotoBiz, export images with a height of 1730px and let the width auto-adjust

    (unless your account includes the Original Files add-on)

Use sRGB, Not CMYK

Images saved in CMYK mode are for print and may appear dull or distorted online.
Make sure your images are in sRGB mode before exporting and uploading to PhotoBiz.

WHAT TO DO IF IMAGES UPLOAD OUT OF ORDER

If your images are showing up in the wrong order after uploading, it’s usually due to inconsistent file names.

We recommend doing a batch rename before uploading to ensure that files are in the correct numerical or alphabetical sequence.
